Spray tan kits are becoming very popular, but there are a few things to consider for those who are about to do it for the first time such as:
· It’s best to arrive at your tanning clinic without makeup on
You need to remove all make foundation and any deodorant or jewellery as these can act as a barrier and stop the colour reaching your skin.
This is usually an all over tan
You need to think about taking all your clothes off (you can wear a thong or briefs if you must) as any clothing will stop the spray, so you will have white areas in those places.
· Things you need to bring
You will need to take some disposable pants or a thong that you can wear home after your tan has dried. You will also need a hair net to hold your hair up and out of the way
· You need to consider how dark you want your new colour to bey
Your therapist/technician will talk with you about the depth of colour you’re wanting and the shade of tan, there are some subtle colour differences that need to be thought of. Your therapist is used to matching people’s new colour with their overall look, so will have some helpful suggestions, but you need to think about what you want to achieve.
If you want the tan to give a bit of colour, so you look good at a wedding you may consider a slightly lighter shade so you look great in photos. If you’re going on a two week holiday, then a slightly darker shade may be in order so it lasts longer
· The Tanning Tent
Usually, the tanning is done in a tanning tent, that has an opening at the front. Most often the formula is sprayed starting at the face area and moving down the body, but each therapist will have their own particular technique and way of applying the formula
They will ask you to close your eyes and hold your breath when they are spraying and advise when to open your eyes and breathe again during the process as well as giving you some simple instruction on how to stand and to move in certain ways, this is to ensure you get an even tan across any wrinkles or natural folds in the skin
· Usually, Two all over layers
It is normal for the therapist to apply two very thin layers all over your body, but this depends on the therapist and the desired effect
· After Spraying
The spray will naturally dry very quickly, but normally your blown dry using an air hose and your toe and finger nails are cleaned as these areas can have a buildup of colour
Once you’re dried, you can dress, but you should wear loose fitting clothes to avoid any rubbing as it can take up to eight hours for the formula to set properly, but your therapist will advise you on the particular type of spray used and its requirements.
Getting a natural looking tan from a spray tan kit is a healthy way to look your best without risking your skin to the effects of harmful UV rays
